Pro 29:15 (KJV) “The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.”
In the context of our Scriptural text, a “rod” represents a tool or a means of “correction” and “punishment”, while a reproof is like a “sharp word” of correction, cautioning, and scolding. The Bible says, “A rod of correction imparts wisdom” (Pro. 29:15; BSB). Wise correction and discipline can make children wise, but children who are never corrected will bring shame to their parents. Our children will not bring shame or disgrace to us in Jesus precious name. Therefore, we must not let them have their own way. If you truly love a child you will correct and discipline the child.
Hebrews 12:5-8 speaks of the chastening of the LORD for His beloved children. The Lord corrects everyone He loves, and disciplines everyone He accepts as a child. The Bible teaches that if a person does not experience the disciplines and corrections of the LORD, he or she is a bastard (Heb. 12:8; GNB). The worst thing that can happen to a man is for the LORD to leave him to himself.
