Proverbs 2:13 (AFV) “Those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness.”
The “ways of darkness” is considered the antonym of the “path of uprightness.” The LORD our God has “delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son” (Col. 1:13; KJV); we must strive to remain in God’s kingdom. Our Scriptural text is talking about those who have abandoned a righteous life to live in the darkness of sin (GNB). These can be called “backsliders”; people who were converted to the Christian faith but then, reverted to previous sinful habits due to their “love for the world” which manifest in the “lust of the flesh”, “lust of the eyes”, and “the pride of life” (1Jo. 2:15-16).
Beloved, the Bible tells us to examine ourselves to see whether we are still in the Christian faith (2Co.13:5; GW). Do you notice the return of any sinful habit you once confessed and forsook? That is an indication of “a backsliding spirit of darkness” seeking to have you. We cannot be like the dog that turns to his own vomit again (2Pe 2:22). Brethren, we don't have much time left (1Co 7:29; ERV); let’s seek to live the remaining days of our lives in pleasing the LORD our God (Col. 1:10)
