Joh 5:23 (KJV) “all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father ...”
The LORD our God is deserving of absolute, unadulterated, unequivocal HONOUR. The Bible says, “The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne, and worship Him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, [11] Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and HONOUR and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Rev. 4:10-11). Now, to honour the LORD is to “value Him above all else.” It is both internal reverence and outward obedience.
There are many practical ways by which we should demonstrate our honour for the LORD. Some examples are:
* Through our sincere worship of Him. Psalm 29:2 says, “Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name…”
* Acknowledging Him in all we do. Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all thy ways acknowledge Him …”
* Having respect for, and treating as SACRED, anything that concerns the LORD, for example, “the firstfruits of all thine increase” (Pro 3:9) and the LORD’s tithes (Mal. 3:8-10).
* Abstaining from all appearance of evil (1Th 5:22; Lev 11:44), knowing that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1Co 6:15-20).
* Prioritizing God in our daily schedule, putting Him first before anything or anyone (Mat. 6:33).
* Doing our jobs with excellence as unto the LORD (Eph 6:5-6; Col 3:22-23).
To dishonour or despise the LORD God is a serious offence; it can bring a curse upon a man. The Bible tells us the story of the sons of Eli (sons of Belial; 1Sa. 2:12), “how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation” (1Sa. 2:22). Their sin was a great act of dishonour unto the LORD. As a result, the LORD said to Eli, the priest, “I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me forever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. [31] Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house” (1Sa. 2:30-31). It is a dangerous and fearful thing to dishonour or despise the LORD. May we never consciously dishonour or despise the LORD, in the name of Jesus.
