Psalms 19:13 (ASV) Keep back thy servant also from PRESUMPTUOUS sins; Let them not have dominion over me: Then shall I be upright, And I shall be clear from great transgression.
All sins are terrible, harmful, and eternally destructive but when a sin is qualified by an adjectival word, we need to pay close attention to it. In our Scriptural text, the Bible refers to sins that are “presumptuous”. This could imply “sins of pride” (BBE), “willful sins” (BSB), “deliberate sins” (NLT) or “sin done on purpose” (CEV), “shameful sins” or “abominable sins”. There are sins even an unbeliever or atheist would consider shameful, repulsive, detestable, and horrible. For example, when a shameless man engage in sexual intercourse with another man’s wife consciously or wilfully and takes pride in his action; what an evil! Our Scriptural text is a prayer to the Almighty God by a Psalmist saying, “Don't let me do what I know is wrong. Don't let sin control me. ...” (ERV); “Don't let me do wrong on purpose ...” (CEV). Can we make this our sincere prayer today! May we be blameless and innocent of blatant rebellion against the LORD our God, in Jesus precious name.
