1Co 16:14 (KJV) “Let all your things be done with charity.”
In his final instructions to the Church at Corinth, Apostle Paul, in his first letter said, “Let everything you do be done in love” (1Co 16:14; AFV). Some other Bible versions states as follows, “Show love in everything you do” (CEV); “Let love and kindness be the motivation behind all that you do” (TPT); “Let all that you do be done from motives of love” (Weymouth).
Now, there are two important points to note here. The first is that everything we do must be done “in love” or “with love”. To do something “in love” means to act with patience, kindness, and selflessness, putting the well-being of others before your own desires or agenda, with no selfish expectation of reward. When you do something in love, your actions are not driven by what you can get out of it, like praise, reciprocation, or validation.
To do something in love also means to maintain a gentle and enduring spirit, even when facing a challenge with someone else’s shortcomings. Acting in love requires humility, rather than boasting or dishonouring others to make yourself look better. Let’s pray for the grace of God to do everything we do in love.
