Psalms 54:6-7 (KJV) [6] “I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good. [7] For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.”
This psalm is tied directly to the events of 1Samuel 23:19-24 and 1Samuel 26:1-3. David was hiding in the wilderness of Ziph while fleeing from King Saul. The Ziphites, who were from David’s own tribe of Judah, betrayed him by reporting his location to Saul. Saul then mobilized men to capture David, but God repeatedly delivered him. Culturally, betrayal by one’s own kin was one of the deepest wounds (Psalm 55:12-14).
Have you been betrayed by your closest friends or family members? It is my prayer that the LORD our God will deliver you just as He delivered David. Arise and declare like David, “I will praise Thy name, O LORD”. In Hebrew thought, God’s “name” represents His character and reputation. To praise His name is to honour who He is – faithful, holy, merciful, and just. We can also engage in voluntary sacrificial thanksgiving in anticipation of our deliverance and breakthroughs, “for it is good” (v. 6).
