Job 16:2 (KJV) “I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.”
When Bro. Job lost his children and his possessions, three of his friends came to him (Job 2:11). They were supposed to be “helpful comforters”; but according to Bro. Job, they were all MISERABLE COMFORTERS. May the LORD our God deliver us from such miserable comforters, in Jesus precious name. Beware of miserable comforters!
Who is a miserable comforter? A miserable comforter is a person, a friend, who ought to strengthen you in your time of difficulties and challenges, but instead, adds to your pain and sorrow by the words of his or her mouth or by his or her actions. Speaking of his friends – Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar – Bro. Job said, “My friends scorn me ...” (Job 16:20). Instead of being a source of encouragement and comfort, these three friends belittled, ridiculed, despise, and mocked Bro. Job. In fact, Job had to ask Bildad the Shubite, “How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?” (Job 19:2).
It is my prayer for you today, that whenever you need comfort in your time of difficulties, may the LORD send to you, generous, kindhearted comforters, in Jesus precious name.
