Isa 22:22 (KJV) “And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.”
This verse is part of God’s message through the prophet Isaiah concerning Eliakim, who was to replace the unfaithful Shebnac, as the steward or governor over the royal household during the reign of King Hezekiah. To lay the key upon Eliakim’s shoulder means God was giving him the authority to manage the affairs of the royal household – to control who could enter or have access to the king. Whatever decision he made in his office (to grant or deny access, to approve or to forbid) would stand firm because it was backed by divine authority. Eliakim was a type of Christ.
Now, this verse also foreshadows Jesus Christ, who holds ultimate authority over the kingdom, over salvation, over life and death, and over access to God. The Lord Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Speaking of the Lord Jesus, the Bible says, “These things saith He that is holy, He that is true, He that hath the key of David, He that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth” (Rev. 3:7). His decisions cannot be overruled; He alone opens the door to eternal life and closes the door of judgment. Jesus alone holds the keys to destiny, opportunity, and eternity. If you put your trust in Him and Him alone, you will not be disappointed. When the Lord Jesus opens a door opportunity, promotion, ministry, favour, no man, no system, or no power can shut it. Hallelujah!
The Lord Jesus Christ also has the power to close doors to protect us from harm, to end ungodly connections, or to stop wrong paths. If a door closes in your life, trust God’s wisdom. He may be redirecting you to something better. Closed doors are sometimes divine protection, not rejection.
