Luk 21:34 (KJV) “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”
In our Scriptural text, our Lord Jesus Christ taught His disciples of the need to be watchful to avoid the distractions of the “cares of this life.” What is a distraction? It is anything that interferes with a man’s focus on the most important things in life. A distraction is anything that prevents someone from concentrating on something else. While we live in this world, we must not lose focus of the most important things in this life and the life to come, that is, those things that are above [higher things]. Colossians 3:1-2 (KJV) says, “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. [2] Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
The “cares of this world” or the worries of life” are distractions of the devil, our archenemy. One Bible version renders Col. 3:2 this way, “... fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm (TPT). Luke 21:34 (Remedy) says, “Guard yourselves: Be careful what you become attached to lest your hearts become so tied to amusement, sports, soap operas, movies, alcohol, drugs, investments, properties and careers that you become trapped, and the opportunity to sever ties to this selfish world passes you by.”
