[Divine Messengers]
Job 33:14 (KJV) “For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.”
Amos 3:7 (KJV) “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”
The LORD our God does speak to His people through divine messengers such as His servants, the prophets. The Prophet Amos was addressing Israel during a time of spiritual decline, injustice, and rebellion against God. In Amos 3:2, Amos announced God’s forthcoming judgment, but he emphasized that God does not act suddenly or without warning (3:7). The LORD speaks first through His prophets, so His people cannot say they were not warned. God has “secrets”, that is, hidden plans, mysteries, or intentions concerning nations and future events. God’s love and justice require that people be warned before judgment comes.
Now, primarily the LORD God speaks through His Word (the Bible), and by the witness of the Holy Spirit. However, prophets are God’s chosen messengers, set apart to receive and declare His word. The prophetic ministry functions as a way God can warn, guide, and direct His people.
