Isaiah 7:1 (KJV) And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not PREVAIL AGAINST it.
Ahaz, king of Judah (c. 735-715BC), was the grandson of king Uzziah and the son of Jotham. He is often remembered as a weak king who failed to trust God, instead seeking help from Assyria. Rezin, king of Syria/Aram, joined forces with Pekah, king of the northern kingdom of Israel, to capture Judah, the southern kingdom, with the intention of dethroning king Ahaz and to install a puppet king more favourable to their anti-Assyrian alliance (Isa 7:6). But the Bible says, they “could not prevail against Judah”. Despite the combined might of Israel and Syria, Jerusalem, the capital of Judah, was preserved. Why?
The Almighty God had a covenant with David, His servant, to preserve his lineage. The Almighty God had said to David, “And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established forever” (2Sa 7:16; KJV). Beloved, there is power in a divine covenant. Enemies of God’s plan for our lives often join forces against us, but no matter the alliances against us, God’s word and plan stand firm for those who are in a divine covenant relationship with God (Psa. 2:1-11; 33:10-22). No weapon formed against us can prosper (Isa. 54:17). God’s protection is stronger than any coalition against His children. When God has spoken, no enemy alliance, no matter how powerful, can overturn His plan. Hallelujah!!!
