Psalm 53:2 (KJV) “God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.”
The LORD our God looks down from heaven upon the children of men to see if anyone is seeking Him. In other words, the LORD expects us to SEEK Him. What does it mean to seek God? The Hebrew word translated, “seek” in our Scriptural text is “doresh” (one who seeks). It implies an earnest pursuit - not casual interest. This word is used for diligently searching after God in earnest prayer and study of the Word of God. Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) tells that God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. The LORD God said, “And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13).
Now, why the issue of “seeking God?” According to 1Corinthians 2:10-11 (KJV), the things of God are precious deep secrets; they are priceless. No one understands the things of God except by the Spirit of God; they are mysteries. They can only be revealed by the Holy Spirit, and He does not reveal them to people who have casual interest in them. Therefore, what powers the act of seeking God is unquenchable hunger and thirst to know God intimately and personally. This is not a crave for intellectual knowledge, but a crave for an intimate fellowship and relationship with the Almighty God.
