1Timothy 6:6 (KJV) “But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
To establish a balance on the teaching about contentment, it is important to note that contentment is not an excuse to stop striving for improvement, neither is it a state of a lack of desire for a better life. Contentment is not an excuse not to work hard, rather it is an antidote for greed and covetousness. It is being satisfied with what one has, while still being willing to grow and improve on one’s current level. Hebrews 13:5 (AFV) says, “Do not allow the love of money to influence your behavior, but be satisfied with what you have ...” Other Bible versions says it this way: “Don't fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have ...” (CEV); “Don’t be obsessed with money but live content with what you have ...” (TPT).
