Heb 13:5 (KJV) “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have ...”
A conversation is a talk between two or more people in which thoughts, feelings, and ideas are expressed, questions are asked and answered, or news and information is exchanged. According to our Scriptural text, it is possible to have covetous conversations. Covetousness is a strong and often excessive desire for something, especially something that belongs to another person. The Bible says, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” (Luk 6:45).
When a man’s heart is occupied with the “love of money” or when a man is “obsessed” with getting more material things, his conversations will be full of covetousness. Now, the Greek word translated “conversation” is also translated, “behaviour”, the Bible says, “Do not allow the love of money to influence your behavior, but be satisfied with what you have …” (Heb 13:5; AFV). Let’s pray against the spirit of covetousness; it is the root of all evil today, such as ritual killings, kidnapping, armed robbery, etc.
